Description

☛ INTRODUCTION TO THANGKA:
A thangka, variously spelled as a thangka, tangka, thanka, or tanka, is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, silk applique, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala. Thangkas are traditionally kept unframed and rolled up when not on display, mounted on a textile backing somewhat in the style of Chinese scroll paintings, with a further silk cover on the front. So treated, thangkas can last a long time, but because of their delicate nature, they have to be kept in dry places where moisture will not affect the quality of the silk.

☛ “MANDALA”: BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Maṇḍala is a Sanskrit word meaning “circle.” In the Buddhist and Hindu religious traditions sacred art often takes a mandala form. The basic form of most Hindu and Buddhist mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. Each gate is in the shape of a T. Mandalas often exhibit radial balance.

☛ KALACHAKRA MANDALA: INTRODUCTION
The Tibetan word for mandala is “kilkhor” which means “center of the circle with exterior walls and surrounding environment.” Mandalas may be created with precious jewels, flowers, dyed rice, colored stones, or colored sand. Sand, traditionally made from crushed precious stones, is considered the most effective materials because of the precious substances involved and the great skill required to create the mandalas’ exquisite details. Since each grain of sand is charged with the blessings of the ritual process, the entire sand mandala embodies a vast store of spiritual energy.

☛ USE OF REAL GOLD:
This thangka of Wheel of Life has real gold painted on its surface along with other paints. This is an ancient process of decorating the thangka in Tibetan Buddhism, Here gold is ground into gold dust, which is then mixed with other undisclosed material to make it paintable on the canvas. this mixture is then mixed with transparent glue and painted on the thangka.
